How to Steam Perfect Broccoli Recipe (with Step by Step Photos)

Ingredients: |
1 large head of Broccoli |
Seasonings: |
2-3 teaspoons Olive Oil |
2-3 teaspoons Lemon Juice or Lime Juice |
A pinch of Black Pepper Powder, optional |
Salt, to taste |
Directions:
- Clean the broccoli. Cut the thick stem (you can use the stem also by peeling and cutting it into small pieces).
- Cut broccoli into florets.
- Place the florets in a steamer basket.
- Steam it for 6-8 minutes, until it is tender (don’t over steam the broccoli to prevent it from turning yellow). (Pour 2 cups of water into a pot, place the steamer inside the pot, and then cover the pot with a lid.)
- Remove the lid and check the broccoli with a fork or knife, it should be tender.
- Transfer the broccoli to a bowl and season it with olive oil, lemon juice, freshly ground black pepper, and salt.
- Toss well. Perfectly steamed broccoli is ready to enjoy.
Tips and Variations:
- How to prevent broccoli from turning yellow – Don’t steam the broccoli for more than 8 minutes. After the steaming is done, immediately transfer the broccoli to a bowl to prevent further cooking.
- For variation, sauté the steamed broccoli for 2-3 minutes.
