1 to 1½ tablespoons Cornstarch |
1/4 teaspoon Salt (or to taste) |
2 tablespoons Oil |
Directions:
- Use extra firm tofu in this recipe.
- Drain excess water from tofu. You can also press the tofu gently between paper napkins to remove excess moisture.
- Cut it into 1/2-inch cubes.
- Take tofu cubes in a medium bowl. Sprinkle 1 to 1½ tablespoons cornstarch and 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste). Toss well until all the cubes are coated well with cornstarch.
- Heat 1-2 tablespoons oil in a pan over medium flame. Add tofu cubes, arrange them in a single layer, and keep some space between the cubes.
- Flip and cook them until all the sides turn crispy and light golden. If you like extra crispy tofu, cook it until it turns light brown from all the sides.
- Transfer them to a plate. Shallow fry the remaining tofu cubes. Crispy tofu cubes are ready for serving. Serve them with ketchup or green chutney as a snack or add them to Thai red curry.
Tips and Variations:
- For crispy tofu, remove the excess moisture as possible from the firm tofu, and don’t reduce the amount of oil.
- Add spices like black pepper powder, red chili flakes, garlic powder, curry powder, tandoori powder, etc. as per your preference to make a spicy crispy tofu.
- For leftover tofu, keep it in a container filled with water and place it in the refrigerator.
