Hi, love this juice. But I'm nearly drowning in wonderful leftover pulp and don't want to throw it out. I've made vege fritters with some pulp, and currently making soup with more, but I still have heaps. So, can I use these ingredients as the base of a batch of fermented foods? Will the apple and celery work in this process? Thank you for any tips. Lovely website, too!

Response: Thanks Andrea for sharing the tips of using the pulp in different recipes. You can also use them to make the dough of paratha (mixed vegetable paratha) or vegetable cutlet (shallow fried fritters).

For women in the villages or areas without blender, I recommend the use of local graters. It helps to get the fruits in smaller particles and then extract the juice with water then filter. The major concern here is hygiene. High level of hygiene must be maintained in washing hands and all the other utensils.

I am a nurse working in Rwanda with women who are HIV positive.

Do you know if the women in a village here can make beet juice without a blender or processor? If the beets are cooked does it reduce the benefit a lot? They really want to do this.

Response: Hi Mary, Thank you for looking after the womens. Beet juise can be made without blender or processor by shredding the beets and squeezing it. However, it will require lot of effort. If you steam cook the beets, it will not reduce its benefits.

I boiled several beets for pickled beets. Is the bright red water the beets were cooked in nutritious? If I blend the 2 leftover cooked beets with the juice, and add celery, apple and carrots, will it be good as an anti-inflammatory? I have arthritis.

Taking advantage of Beetroot being in season, can you freeze the juice? Or can you freeze the beetroot for future use? Many thanks.

Response: Yes, you can freeze the juice for up to 6months but the nutrition value will decrease as the longer you freeze the juice. We recommend consuming fresh juice to get maximum benefits. You can also freeze the cooked beetroot (boiled in water until tender, and then peeled, sliced and stored) for future use.
